I’m Jonny. I stand a little shorter than average, have all my own hair, get sunburnt incredibly easily and hate coleslaw.
I started this blog in March 2012 as ‘JD’s Thoughts’, which consisted of my random concerns, tales of general awkwardness and what my wife referred to as ‘social commentary’. I also thought people might find the name amusing because of its similarity to a popular sports retail brand, but in hindsight I don’t think that worked particularly well.
However, in the summer of 2012 I discovered that I was going to be a father for the first time – something that was both incredibly exciting but which also scared the living daylights out of me.
Fast forward to the time of writing this (May 2013), I am now the very proud dad to a beautiful 3-week old baby girl, who is already adding so much to my life (and I’m not just referring to the frightening amount of wipes and nappies I have to dispose of).
Anyway, I figured that my burgeoning parental experiences could actually be my focus, a proper theme to the blog, rather than simply posting about baking disasters, evil cats or my vague attempts at self-improvement.
Hence the birth (pardon the pun) of The Novice Dad’s Diary, a forum for me to document all of this, as well as acting as a cheap form of therapy. I may well need a fair bit of help, which is hopefully where you come in. Any feedback, stories and anecdotes are always welcome in the comments sections, so please feel free to get involved. From my discussions with other mums and dads of all ages, there appears to be a considerable degree of ‘winging it’ to this parenting business, so I guess we’re all in this together!
In the meantime though, all of the JD’s Thoughts entries can still be found in the archives and I hope you enjoy reading posts both past and present. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve heard there’s another sale on at Mothercare.
